''Homo Novus'' movie set for September release

22/01/2018
A first teaser trailer has been released for a forthcoming Latvian film based upon one of the country's most-loved works of literature. "Homo Novus" is based on the classic novel of the same name by Anšlavs Eglītis and is slated for a September release.

It gives a vivid depiction of rivalry in love and art among the bohemian crowd of 1930s Riga and is also notable among Latvia's literary canon for being extremely funny, a quality that has helped it find a new, modern audience.

You can view the trailer below and though brief, it suggests the movie will evoke the "golden era" of Latvia's own ''Bright Young Things'' in a impressive way.

The cast includes such stalwart actors as Andrejs Žagars, Guna Zariņa and Gundars Āboliņš as well as what looks like a cameo from singer Intars Busulis.

The movie is the work of the Film Angels production company and is directed by Anna Viduleja. You can follow the progress of the film towards its release at its official Facebook page.
