Across the world, the Latvian Foreign Service recalls the significance of the Baltic Way
From the United States of America and Canada to India, Japan and Uzbekistan, Latvian embassies and consulates abroad together with their colleagues from the Baltic State diplomatic missions, diaspora organizations and Baltic friends will engage in a far-reaching public diplomacy programme, The Baltic Way 30.
Prime Ministers of the Baltic States to mark the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way in Riga
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has invited Jüri Ratas, Prime Minister of Estonia, and Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of Lithuania, to visit Latvia on 23 August. The officials will hold a meeting, as well as attend celebration events.
The Baltic Way will be marked with a series of significant events throughout Latvia
In just three weeks, on the 23rd of August, thirty years will have passed since some two million people in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia joined hands to form a chain of people connecting the capitals of the Baltic States - Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius.
Wabadus (Freedom), the Historic Armoured Train

1919, Latvia’s First Year
The proclamation of the Republic of Latvia on the 18th of November 1918, although significant, it was only the first step on the long road towards a fully functioning state. The task ahead needed to be done on war-ravaged territory, and in constant defence against unrelenting attacks by external enemies.
