Creative workshop for youth MY MOTHER IS A ROCK, lead by performance artists Kate McIntosh and Arantxa Martinez who work in experimental theatre and visual arts. The four-day workshop will focus on how objects, materials, and bodies can be combined in surprising and disturbing ways.
Each day participants will test out techniques and experiments that artists use in their work - to create images that go beyond the ‘normal’ and tell unusual stories. They will displace familiar objects and use them ‘wrong’, mix things up and turn them upside down to stretch their meanings by asking “how it can be otherwise?”. Participants will also explore how renaming the world starts to change it, and how building new maps of reality affects ourselves and each other. This will help participants explore the potential of different possible realities, and encourage their critical thinking, creativity and active involvement in the processes around them.
The workshop is part of a series of creative workshops for youth and children titled "Imagine 2068" and organized by the New Theatre Institute of Latvia.
