Latvian countryside and farming has been a cradle and a bread basket for Latvian people through the centuries. Farmers have always been respected and they have honored their sacred thing - their father land. Bread, meat, milk, honey, eggs, berries and vegetables are richly grown in Latvian countryside and have been served on Latvian and other nations’ food tables.
Over the time farming methods have changed, but countryside still contain common values that have been created and saved by Latvian families which work and live in the countryside.
The main idea of the photo exhibition “Agriculture in Latvia has been, is and will be!” is to encourage public debate – how our parents and grandparents have lived and worked in the Latvian countryside and what we need to do today to ensure that the Latvian rural areas are populated and economically active as well as there are active social infrastructure in countryside the future.
Society is invited to get to know their family, village, county and regional agricultural traditions and gather photographs showing the farming past and present, highlighting the changes that have occurred on family farms, old farmsteads, farm fields and farming methods.
